What to Expect

How I Help

As your Bideford chiropractor, every visit starts with an in-depth conversation and a thorough examination so that your care is tailored to you.

Assessment & Diagnosis

A comprehensive one hour consultation, starting by taking the time to listen to you and reviewing your medical history, followed by a thorough physical examination which includes full orthopaedic and neurological testing.

Report of Findings

Once I know what's going on, I'll explain your diagnosis in clear terms. I'll talk you through your options too, so you understand exactly what's happening and what comes next. I am trained to recognise when chiropractic treatment is unsuitable for certain medical conditions, and can make onward referrals to your GP or another healthcare professional if necessary.

Hands-On Treatment

Treatment may consist of spinal mobilisation/manipulation, soft tissue therapy, sports taping and dry needling. In addition to this, where appropriate, I will create a tailored exercise rehabilitation programme designed for what your body needs.

Meet Your Chiropractor

Luke Chappell

MChiro (Hons), DC, LRCC · GCC No. 05761

I grew up competing in tennis at a high level and it was a shoulder and back injury on the court that first brought me to see a chiropractor. The difference it made stuck with me, and set me on the path to training as one myself. I graduated with Distinction from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic and spent over two years as an associate chiropractor at a highly reputable clinic in Eastbourne, treating everything from lower back and neck pain to headaches, joint pain and minor sports injuries.

Originally from Dorset, I've always had a soft spot for the South West. The relaxed pace of life, friendly people and easy access to the outdoors eventually drew me to set up here in Bideford. Outside the clinic you'll usually find me on a run or a hike, out on the water paddleboarding, or playing racket sports and golf. I understand first-hand what it takes to stay active and keep moving.

Chappell Chiropractic offers a patient centred approach to healthcare in Bideford.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with me, no referral needed.

Does treatment hurt?

Most treatment is gentle and comfortable. Some techniques, like manipulation, can produce a popping sound but shouldn't be painful. It's common to feel mild muscle soreness for a day or so afterwards, similar to how you might feel after exercise.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends entirely on your case. After your assessment, I'll give you a realistic idea of what to expect, rather than a fixed number that applies to everyone.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows freedom of movement is best. I may need to examine the affected area, so avoid anything too restrictive.

Is chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic care is generally very safe. As with any treatment, there can be minor side effects such as temporary soreness. I'll always explain the risks and benefits relevant to you before we begin.

Do you treat children?

Yes, I'm happy to treat patients aged 10 and up. I don't currently treat babies or very young children.

Do you accept cash or card?

Both. I accept card and cash payments.

Is the clinic accessible?

My treatment room is on the first floor, above Bideford Foot Health Clinic on the High Street, and is reached via a flight of stairs. Unfortunately there is currently no disabled access. Please get in touch before booking if this is a concern.
